Growing My Social Capital

Growing My Social Capital

Jenna Parker – Market

1) Jenna is a mobile hairstylist. She is a one woman show and travels to her clients instead of them coming to her.
2) Jenna was chosen as my market expert because she owns a similar business. She has taken her clientele and started to serve them in a mobile on-call fashion.
3) Jenna was a mutual contact through friends from high school. I was able to find her on Facebook.
4) Taking the time to respond to my message was a big deal to me. In previous assignments, that was the hardest task. The conversation was friendly and ended with her wanting an update on whether I ever truly would consider implementing my idea.
5) I think Jenna is someone that I would bounce ideas off of. She seems to be pretty successful with her own business and has battled some areas that I would struggle with as well.

John Crisalli – Industry

1) Mr. Crisalli is a former salon owner and now a guest stylist that travels.
2) I consider Mr. Crisalli an industry expert for sure. He has been in every facet of the cosmetology business, even having a line of beauty products.
3) I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Crisalli quite a few years ago. I never maintained contact so it was difficult for me to find him. After failing on social media fronts, I ended up having to call around to several salons where I knew he had contacts with.
4) It was a little awkward at first as Mr. Crisalli is older now and not really available as he once was. The exchange was short and to the point. He didn’t really like my idea but did note it was more because his resistance to change in the industry.
5) I don’t think future contact would be as beneficial as I’d like. Mr. Crisalli is very anti social media and technology. However, he can add a lot of advice on client relationship building. That would be what I would be specific with in future conversations.

Maruscha – Supplier

1) Maruscha is a full service cosmetologist.
2) I considered her a supplier option.
3) I met Maruscha after seeing her advertisement on Facebook and looking at her LinkedIn page. From there I actually went into the salon she worked at to speak with her.
4) Maruscha was so gracious in giving me a trim while we talked about my idea. She thought it was a great idea and really would like me to research it some more.
5) I think Marushca would be a great option as one of my providers. She is highly connected and could easily build up my provider base in this area.

Reflection

I think this experience gave me the ability to really see how many contacts are out there. It gave me the ability to gauge who could actually be apart of my provider base. I feel as though this kind of networking was easier because it was focused to a topic I am connected to and understand in great detail.

  1. These are really cool people that you've found, it's exciting to find people who are so perfect for what you want to do. I feel like all of these people can really help contribute to the creation and growth of our idea and networking is so important and it seems like they'll be good for that too. These people all seem very inspiring and I agree that this exercise really does a great job of opening our eyes and showing us really how much potential there is out there for networking and meeting people. 4. Hi Deanna!
I have to say I really like your venture idea. It would be a hit in the Gainesville area. Also, I would like to add that I find the people that will help you with your venture very excited and interesting. I have to say they are very critical people for your business idea to work. Also, don't forget that the effort and passion you put on it would be the most important thing for this to be a success. Great job and keep it up! I have to say I wasn't able to complete this assignment, but please feel free to check out my post on my Unfair Advantage http://cabuawad.blogspot.com/2016/03/my-unfair-advantage.html

  5. Hi Deanna!
Great job with this assignment! I thought you put a lot of effort into finding the right person for each category. It sounds like you learned a great amount from talking to these people and now have a better idea of how to connect with people to make your idea come to life. I could not find the time to do the assignment so I can't share a link. Good luck with the rest of your semester!
