Google Gold

1) A discussion of your general approach and strategy to search engine optimiation (SEO). What were some of the activities you did for each blog post to pursue SEO? My general approach and strategy was consistency. I felt that using certain key words multiple times would help. I also followed the instructions given when tagging our blogs. Each title also was consistent to the instructions we were give. Perhaps in a more personal blog, I could have added repetitive pictures or links to items that are relevant.
2) What were your keywords. How did you select those keywords? Did you change or refine your keywords through the semester? My keywords were the weekly assignment number and what was specifically related. In retrospect, I could have added a lot more keywords for greater promotion.
3) How did you use social media to enhance your SEO efforts? What your your surprises or general impression of using social media to improve your blog's profile? Was social media generally receptive of your blog, or did it get ignored? I dislike the idea of advertising on social media and chose not to go this route to advertise my blog.
4) What was your most "viral" post? In other words, which post obtained the most traffic? Why do you think? My most viral post was my idea napkin #1. It obtained the most traffic and comments. I think since it was earlier in the semester, students were more thoughtful in their viewing.

5) Finally, did you make it to the first page of Google results for your keywords? If not, what page of results did you make it to? My blog was not optimal for Google results. I can see now how I could have done things differently. I have to say, I am not a fan of social media or blogging and perhaps my bias affected my ability to promote my blog.

  1. I too only used the titles for the assignments as my keywords. Perhaps using words such as entrepreneurship or innovation would have helped. I think that when we post our blogs it automatically is uploaded to the public forum on Google+ (I think) so I guess that might count as social media? That's an interesting point you made about others taking interest in other's blogs in the beginning of the semester, because I also had my most viewed page during the first two months.

  2. Great job, Deanna. I totally agree with you on several points. I also did not tag many things, other than just the one that was required for us in all posts. I think that if both of us would have tagged more words, then there would have been a higher likely hood of our blogs showing up on the first page of a Google search. I also believe that if you would have added more photos to your posts, then it would have generated more views and results in search engines. But we are still learning and we did our best. I personally never thought about getting the word out. But now I can see how our blogs would have been a great way to do this. Thank you for sharing!

  3. Good post Deanna. I believe you pointed out the most important part of SEO. The most important attribute is consistency. You have to repeat certain keywords to have good SEO. I think it is a good point of advice to include certain pictures and links that can increase your blog's popularity. Overall I feel you had a good grasp on the assignment and offered good points to improve your own SEO. Check out my post at http://ahamuf.blogspot.com/2016/04/google-gold.html.
